Thanks for checking out my blog! Check back often for an inside look at my sessions, more photos of my Brand News, & maybe some tips and tricks I've picked up along the way. I love sharing sneak peeks of these amazing babies with you, and I hope you can see thru my work how much I am blessed by this job. I absolutely love it.
Much love & happiness ~Kathryn
I absolutely adored meeting these two perfect little ones. They came over to model for my behind-the-scenes video, and I fell in love at first sight. Tiny & delicate, and twice the fun. I always try to capture individual photos as well as twin-love portraits. I can't wait to watch them grow!
When I chat with a new client before their newborn session, I always have a few quick questions for them. I like to personalize every set-up to create perfect, one-of-a-kind photos, and I love all the ideas new parents come up with for their baby. When I spoke with this young couple, they mentioned their ties to Texas A&M University, and their Aggie love- so I really wanted a special set-up to capture that pride for them. Some other questions I usually ask include style and color preferences, and for this sweet boy's photos we decided on dark wood, neutral colors, a bookworm set, and some new family photos as well. I fell in love with his long hair and his sweet lips- he even cracked a few smiles for me. So much to love from 2 short hours snuggling with this sweetheart! I hope you enjoy a peek at our time together.

Meeting Baby Jaxson was like coming home to a warm soft bed and cozy slippers. Some things just feel right, and it was possibly love at first sight. Not only did I have a lot in common with his parents, I was in love with his chunky cheeks and his amazing newborn smiles. The medical profession will tell new moms that their baby is too young to mean a smile---- I refuse to believe that. Babies are so under-estimated. Jaxson knew better, and luckily we understood each other pretty well!
I always enjoy incorporating the military into my photo sessions, because being military is more then a job. It's a lifestyle and it involves, and affects, the entire family. We took a few shots of Baby J with his Army dad and also some of Dad's favorite sports teams! Go Buckeyes! Why would I want to just take photos that document, when I could be creating photos that document AND mean something amazing to the clients? Each one not only shows off the newest addition to their amazing family, but it also says something about who they are as a family. I love it. I truly love it all. Enjoy a peek at our time together that day.
Sometimes, babies don't sleep much in the first few weeks after they are born. Sometimes they're more of an average, cycling thru a constant routine of eat, sleep, eat sleep, eatsleepeat. And then sometimes, all they do is sleep. And that's all Brand New Cody wanted to do- he made my job easy! He even gave me a couple of huge smiles, just enough to make me fall completely in love with him. What a dreamboat. He posed like a champ, he didn't fuss about the puppy outfit we insisted he wear, he rocked his batman outfit like a superhero. I don't even remember seeing his eyes open. Just look at those luscious cheeks. That's my kind of baby :)
Take a peek at some of the amazing set-ups I used with Baby Cody, and how handsome he was!
Sometimes, I have sessions where the parents come in with absolutely nothing planned- they complete trust my vision and my ability to capture the style and personality of their newborn baby- and that's great! But, I have to admit, I appreciate the challenge when I have parents who have a unique prop for me to incorporate into the photos. I think including a personal item makes the photos even more special, and this family brought in something amazing for me to use! I was so happy for my very first ever Star Wars baby! Not only that, but the baby they brought in, Baby Alexander, had a luscious head of hair and slept like a dream.
Why is this important? Most newborn photographers take 3-4 hours for capturing a few different setups of the baby. I capture twice as many sets, in half the time- just two hours! It's not about quantity, but it is about variety. I want parents to have a variety of color choices and poses so that they can choose their favorites----- and sometimes, they can't choose, and have to have them all!
I want to make sure that I capture every feature that makes a new mom's heart melt- those chunky cheeks, that swirl of hair, those eyelashes- as well as different colors and props that will eventually end up as beautiful artwork all over the client's house.
It's also super important to me that my clients are happy, and comfortable. A newborn session needs to be very warm, because babies can't regulate their body temperature very well yet. A new mom doesn't want to sit around, being uncomfortable in a hot studio, for 3-4 hours. My no-stress environmental techniques aren't just for the newborns- I want the whole experience to be amazing for the entire family.
Baby Alexander was perfect in every way, and he did so well that we even got to go out to a nearby park at the end of our session for some outdoor family photos! It was a great way to cool off and the Texas sunset was gorgeous. It's one of my favorite perks of Central Texas. Enjoy a peek at our time together!
